Frankenstein Chapters 5-7: The Monster is (Re)born


In chapter 5 of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, on a stormy night, after months of hard work, Victor Frankenstein completed his creation. After coming face to face with his monster, his horrific face scared Victor, he decides to run from his creature and sleeps in the other room. In which, he has a bad dream about Elizabeth and his mother. He sees his mother’s corpse,frightened from this nightmare, we wakes up to another, the monster is watching over him on his bed, smiling at his creator. He flees the house, heading into the town of Ingolstadt, where to his surprise he finds his age old friend Henry, who recently came to study at the same university as Victor. It was healthy to see a familiar face, since Victor had spent so much time working on his monster, he put himself into an unhealthy isolated position. Victor takes Henry back to his monster free home, where Henry nurses Victor back to health. Once he finally recovered, he reads the letters received from Elizabeth during his illness. It has been said that a family friend, Justine Moritz, come to visit after Victor’s mother passed. Later on, you he receives another letter, this time from his father,saying his younger brother William has been murdered. Once arriving to Geneva, he is wandering around where they found William’s body. He then sees a figure, his creature, lurking in the murder scene. He is sure the monster was the cause of William’s death, yet Justine is accused. She had a picture of Caroline,Victor’s mom in her pocket, which used to belong to William before his death. Victor tried to testify for her innocence but did not explain his monster’s existence in fear of being rejected for lunacy.
